Welcome to ChessKidsNation. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the ChessKidsNation website, programs, classes, camps, tournaments, online services, events, and related services.
By accessing our website, registering for a program, or using any ChessKidsNation service, you agree to these Terms.
1. About ChessKidsNation
ChessKidsNation provides chess education, coaching, school programs, group and private classes, online classes, chess camps, tournaments, senior programs, curriculum licensing opportunities, and other chess-related services. (ChessKidsNation)
In these Terms, “ChessKidsNation,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to ChessKidsNation and its authorized representatives, instructors, coaches, and service providers.
2. Registration and Parent/Guardian Responsibility
Parents or legal guardians are responsible for registering and providing accurate information for participants under the age of 18.
By registering a minor for a ChessKidsNation program, the parent or legal guardian represents that they have the legal authority to do so and agrees to be responsible for the child’s participation in accordance with these Terms.
You agree to promptly update information if it changes.
3. Program Registration
Registration for a ChessKidsNation program, class, camp, tournament, or event may be subject to:
- Available space
- Eligibility requirements
- Program-specific rules
- Payment requirements
- Scheduling availability
- Completion of required forms or waivers
Submission of a registration request does not guarantee enrollment unless ChessKidsNation confirms acceptance.
ChessKidsNation reserves the right to modify class schedules, instructor assignments, locations, formats, or program offerings when reasonably necessary.
4. Payments, Fees, and Refunds
Fees for ChessKidsNation programs, classes, camps, tournaments, and other services will be communicated during registration or enrollment.
Unless otherwise stated in writing:
- Payments must be made by the applicable due date.
- Registration may not be considered complete until required payment is received.
- Late payments may affect continued participation.
- Refund, cancellation, transfer, or credit policies may vary by program or event.
Specific programs or tournaments may have additional cancellation and refund terms. Those program-specific terms will apply in addition to these Terms.
5. Attendance and Participation
Participants are expected to arrive on time and be prepared to participate respectfully.
Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring that participants are picked up promptly at the end of programs unless other arrangements have been expressly approved.
Repeated absences, disruptive behavior, failure to follow instructions, nonpayment, or violations of these Terms may result in suspension or removal from a ChessKidsNation program.
6. Participant Conduct and Sportsmanship
ChessKidsNation is committed to providing a positive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
Participants, parents, guardians, coaches, and visitors are expected to:
- Treat others with respect
- Demonstrate good sportsmanship
- Follow reasonable instructions from ChessKidsNation staff and coaches
- Avoid bullying, harassment, threats, discrimination, or abusive conduct
- Respect facilities, equipment, and property
- Follow applicable school, library, venue, tournament, or online platform rules
ChessKidsNation may remove a participant from a class, event, tournament, or online activity when behavior creates a safety concern or materially disrupts the program.
7. Online Classes and Technology
Certain ChessKidsNation services may be provided online. Online instruction may involve video conferencing, voice communication, screen sharing, remote desktop sharing, online chess platforms, educational platforms, or other technology.
Participants and parents are responsible for having appropriate internet access and compatible devices unless otherwise stated.
ChessKidsNation is not responsible for interruptions caused by a participant’s internet connection, device, software, or third-party technology service.
8. Fair Play and Cheating
Chess is founded on honesty and fair competition.
During ChessKidsNation tournaments, classes, online games, and other competitive activities, participants must not use unauthorized assistance, including:
- Chess engines or computer analysis
- Assistance from another person
- Unauthorized books, notes, databases, or other reference materials
- Account sharing or account manipulation
- Match fixing
- Any other method intended to gain an unfair competitive advantage
ChessKidsNation may investigate suspected violations and may take appropriate action, including game forfeiture, disqualification, removal from an event, suspension, or restriction from future ChessKidsNation activities.
9. Third-Party Platforms and Organizations
ChessKidsNation may use or direct participants to third-party websites, software, chess platforms, payment processors, or other services.
Some ChessKidsNation tournaments and activities may also involve organizations such as the United States Chess Federation (“US Chess” or “USCF”). ChessKidsNation identifies itself as an affiliate of the United States Chess Federation. (ChessKidsNation)
Your use of third-party services may be subject to the separate terms, conditions, privacy policies, rules, and requirements of those providers or organizations.
ChessKidsNation is not responsible for the content, availability, policies, or actions of independent third parties.
10. Intellectual Property
The ChessKidsNation name, logo, website content, instructional materials, curriculum, graphics, text, photographs, videos, and other materials may be protected by intellectual property laws.
You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, publicly display, sell, license, or otherwise exploit ChessKidsNation materials without prior written permission, except for personal and noncommercial use expressly permitted by law.
11. Photos and Videos
ChessKidsNation may photograph or record classes, camps, tournaments, and events.
Where appropriate and permitted, photographs or recordings may be used for educational, promotional, marketing, website, social media, or archival purposes.
Parents or legal guardians should contact ChessKidsNation regarding any questions or restrictions concerning the use of identifiable images or recordings of their child.
12. Assumption of Risk
Participation in chess programs and events may involve ordinary risks associated with travel, attendance at facilities, interaction with other participants, use of technology, and participation in organized activities.
By participating, you acknowledge these ordinary risks and agree to exercise reasonable care.
Parents and guardians remain responsible for their child’s transportation and supervision except during periods when ChessKidsNation has expressly accepted supervisory responsibility as part of a specific program.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ChessKidsNation will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from the use of our website or services.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit liability where such limitation is prohibited by law.
14. Disclaimer of Warranties
ChessKidsNation provides its website and services on an “as available” basis, subject to applicable law.
We do not guarantee that:
- Every website feature will always be available or error-free
- Every program will meet a participant’s individual expectations
- Participation will result in a particular chess rating, ranking, scholarship, championship, or other outcome
- Third-party technology services will operate without interruption
Chess improvement depends on many factors, including attendance, practice, effort, prior experience, and individual circumstances.
15. Privacy
Your use of ChessKidsNation services is also subject to our Privacy Policy.
By using our website or services, you acknowledge that personal information may be collected and used as described in the applicable Privacy Policy.
16. Termination or Suspension
ChessKidsNation reserves the right to suspend or terminate access to programs, events, online services, or other activities when reasonably necessary, including for:
- Violations of these Terms
- Unsafe or disruptive conduct
- Cheating or unfair play
- Harassment or abusive behavior
- Nonpayment
- Fraudulent registration or information
- Other conduct that materially interferes with ChessKidsNation operations or the experience of other participants
17. Changes to Programs and Terms
ChessKidsNation may update, modify, suspend, or discontinue programs, services, website content, or these Terms from time to time.
The most current version of these Terms will be posted on the ChessKidsNation website with an updated Effective Date.
18. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of Alabama, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
