2014 National Junior High Championship – April 2014
We are very happy to announce the following National Championship winners at the 2014 National Junior High Championship held at Atlanta from April 25-27, 2014.
- Riley Smith 6th Grader from Birmingham, Alabama scored 6 points out of 7 games tied for 3rd place and got 8th place Trophy in K-9 Under 1000 section. Riley gained 225 points in this tournament. 231 players played in this section.
- Hemachandra Rambha 2nd grader from Nashville, Tennessee scored 5.5 points out of 7 games tied for 3rd place and got 14th place Trophy in K-9 Under 1250 section. Hemi gained 56 rating points in this tournament. Hemi was the TOP 2nd grader in the country among all 2nd graders participated in this section. 212 players in this section.
- Vikram Ruppa 8th grader from Atlanta, Georgia scored 5 points out of 7 games tied for 4th place and got 29th place in K-9 Under 1250 section. Vikram gained 67 rating points in this tournament. 212 players in this section.

Based on Vikhram Balagee’s performance at the Alabama State Scholastic Chess Championship and subsequent playoff today(6/11/2017), he is nominated to represent the State of Alabama at the Denker Tournament (http://www.denkerchess.com/ ) of High School Champions to be held July 29 – August 1 during the 2017 US Open in Norfolk, VA. This is a prestigious tournament in which one nominee from each state competes for national honors. We are extremely proud of Vikhram and his achievement. We are sure he will do his BEST and represent our Great State of Alabama.

The City of Raleigh hosted the 2014 NC K-12 Chess Championship March 1-2. This was the 40th anniversary event and was held at the Raleigh Convention Center, 500 S Salisbury St, Raleigh, NC 27601-2114, right in the heart of our capital city. They had over 640 players registered.
Savitra Kulkarni from Metrolina Regional Scholars’ Academy finished as the 2nd runner up in “K-8 U1400 Individual” category. He scored 5.5 points out of 7.

- Kapil Nathan came FIRST in the K-5 Novice section with a PERFECT score winning all his games (5-0).

Namratha Mohan our online chess student from Wisconsin participated in Sullivan Chess tournament conducted by WSCF. She played in K-5 division, 6 rounds with 42 kids. She won all her 6 games and came 2nd in the tournament. She was also part of her school team and they finished in 3rd Place.

Savitra Kulkarni one of our online student from North Carolina was part of his School Chess Team ‘Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy”. He played in “Third Team Tournament” held on April 28th. He won all his games he played and his school won the first place with 7.5 points.
